It’s Veodia

Live video streamed right from your desktop (my laptop)…out to the web, to a blog, or onto a screen in your virtual learning environment in Second Life. And…without the process of configuring a server…which means you don’t have to be a hard-core tech-person to do this…you can focus on content and leave the tough stuff to Veodia. It’s in Beta, but free accounts are available and worth a try. http://www.veodia.com

Most important from my end, the support from Veodia has been excellent. I’ve had emails and phone calls back from those folks, as I’ve worked out bugs (of my own creation)….yes…they actually called me back just to see how I was doing. The last time that happened was, um….gimme a minute.

After you create your account and get your access, clicking a few buttons and adding a bit of text…like, what is the title of your movie…and then you click “BROADCAST”. You are then provided with at least three links you can send to your viewers, or past into your media link in Second Life and..there you are!

Really….check it out.

Simple and Oh, So Sweet

Ok, they don’t have to be super whiz-bang graphics to be sweet and oh, so addicting. Just take a look at the Fancy Pants Adventure on the Kongregate game website (http://kongregate.com/games/DrNeroCF/the-fancy-pants-adventures). This is another hint into the future of gaming as while you play the online game, the social network is active in the scrolling window on the same page. I just stumbled across the Kongregate website while meandering through my bloglist, but it is clear that it will become a regular stop on my daily web-journey.

Just “Clip-it”!

I just came across Clipmarks, at http://www.clipmarks.com, and have added it to my Firefox add-ons. Clipmarks let you select specific parts of webpages and save them for later reference, rather than just bookmarking the entire page. You can ‘clip’ text, images…whatever you want, by simply selecting them on the page and clicking the button on your browser window. This looks to be a great asset for collecting the research pieces here and there. You then save your ‘clippings’ and can categorize them for later searching and using.

Try Twitter Yet?

If you haven’t seen or tried Twitter yet, take the time to do so. It’s a fairly simple concept: a website where you login and simply tell others what you are doing right now. No, no, no! Don’t get all hung-up on, “Well, what’s the purpose of that?” Even asking that question puts you somewhere outside the bounds of the digital social culture that Twitter exists to serve.

Why a Twitter? Browse it for 5 minutes and then ask again…not that you’ll have an answer yet, but you WILL most likely find yourself bookmarking it so you can go back again, and again, and again.

Most amazing, read the first post….count to 5….then click on “Public Timeline’ on the menu at the top to refresh the page. When I tried that this afternoon, more than one post was being added per second. So what’s the purpose?

Just don’t tell me that digital folks aren’t ’social’….
